Da han kom ud af den dyre Lovesexy Tour, skulle Prince fylde sine pengekasser op og indvilligede i at indspille ni originale sange til Tim Burtons box office-smadrende film, Batman, med Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholson og Kim Basinger i hovedrollerne. Albummet fra 1989 var en stor succes og indeholdt hitsingler "Batdance" og "Partyman", samt "Scandalous".
